Youth OutreachThe mission of Lions Youth Outreach: Simply stated, Lions Youth Outreach is a program designed to increase involvement between Lions and youth. This interaction benefits both parties. Lions reach out to youth and reveal the value of community service. Youth recognise the educational and personal benefits of performing community. In turn, they reach out to help their community. Whether Lions decide to fund a literacy program or volunteer to help with the Special Olympics, improving the welfare of youth is the result. Either indirectly or indirectly, Lions reach out to youth demonstrating their care and concern. The Lions Youth Outreach Program provides endless possibilities. Numerous opportunities exist specially in providing the following services: drug abuse prevention, community: citizenship/public/social; educational; environmental; health; international; recreational. Lions can address the risks facing youth, including: drugs, alcohol, tobacco, illiteracy, poverty, AIDS, gangs/street children, abuse and violence. Lions can also suggest avenues for developing healthy youth. These include life skills programs such as Lions-Quest, devise learning programs, youth forums, AIDS education and violence prevention. Whatever the focus, youth learn a valuable lesson about caring. As Lions demonstrate the power of humanitarian service, they act as positive role models for youth. Before long, the youth will want to volunteer by serving the elderly or the children of the community. As a result, community will benefit. |
